No surprises on beginning

1 st day championshipIn Bratislava, the first matches in the preliminary groups started the fights for the titles at the 2017 Para Table Tennis World Team Championship. All 116 teams played on twelve tables and the favourites in the matches confirmed their role.

Paralympic winners from Rio Frenchmen Fabien Ramilaut and Stephane Molliens defeated Spain 2:1 in the category TM2. Although Iker Sastre and Miguel Angel Toledo won the introductory doubles, later they were defeated in both singles by the favourites from France. In the same category, Slovak couple succeeded. The couple Jan Riapos and Martin Ludrovsky defeated Serbians Goran Perlic and Vladan Petkovic 2:0. After the balanced doubles, that Slovaks won 3:0, Martin Ludrovsky defeated Goran Perlic with the same score. "I do not think, that we were favourites before the match, because we know the quality of Perlic. We tried to go step by step, at first, to win the important doubles. We succeeded, after the balanced first set, when we tried to play with reason and mostly not to make mistakes, we got tougher and at the end we were better. The following single was also very difficult. It was the first match at the tournament and I did not feel optimally warmed up. The first set was important, mainly for psyche. Later I was again on top. It was a very important entry to the tournament and I believe that we will continue with the same spirit in the following matches," said after the win Slovak player Martin Ludrovsky.

Other favourites succeeded as well. Paralympic winner Viktor Diduch, who plays in the TM8 category with Ivan Mai, entered the tournament without any major problems. Together they defeated Slovak couple Richard Csejtey and Jozef Krsiak 2:0. Viktor Diduch saw the basis of success in the introductory doubles. "To win the doubles is very important, because it presents a half of the overall success. The following single with Richard Csejtey was difficult as always. Actually, all our mutual matches end with a very close result. He has excellent serve and hard topspin, so I had to fully concentrate to win the match," said the Ukranian player.

His team-mate from the gold paralympic team, Maxim Nikolenko, plays in Bratislava in the category TM7 and together with Michail Popov defeated the Czech couple Daniel Horut, Zbynek Lambert 2:0. "Although we had a chance in few sets, but our rival performed better endings. It is best ranked couple and we did not expect to defeat Ukrainians. They played really well," commented the game Czech player Zbynek Lambert.

csemiDomestic players, with the exception from the team in the category TM2, were struggling. The remaining six teams did not win their matches of the first round. The closest to win were in the category TM6 Alexander Nagy with Gabriel Csémy. After the doubles, they lead 1:0 over the British team David Paul Wetherill, Paul Arif Karabardach, but later Alexander Nagy lost in his single and everything was in hands of Gabriel Csémy. He led 2:0 on sets over Arif Karabardach, but the British player focused on stronger tactics and asked for the fifth set. In this set, Csémy had as the first the advantage of match ball, but at the end Karabardach won.

Men in the category TM1 lost also with the closest difference 1:2. The couple Marian Kamien, Martin Polkorad won the doubles over the British couple Paul Davies, Thomas Matthews and was a step from the valuable victory. But later Martin Barbierik lost his match against Paul Davies, and after him Marian Kamien lost the decisive match against Thomas Matthews.
